Reiki FAQ's

What does Reiki do?

Reiki uses energy to heal. It treats physical ailments and furthermore as a holistic system it treats the whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirit. ‘Rei’ means higher wisdom, knowledge or intelligence. ‘Ki’ refers to the life energy that flows through every living thing.

What are its origins?

Reiki was developed by a Japanese Buddhist called Dr. Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926). After studying for many years, he discovered a way of accessing and using this healing energy and of passing this ability on to other people. Reiki as a healing system has been used in the West since the late 1930’s.

Can anyone receive Reiki?

Yes, with a few exceptions. Reiki is safe and has no side effects at any age. However in the following cases there are contraindications: if you have a pace maker, you are generally advised not to receive Reiki as the effects may be unpredictable; if you are diabetic you may receive Reiki but will need to monitor your insulin levels as Reiki may affect the levels of insulin required by the body; if you have broken a bone and this has not been set properly, Reiki may cause the bone to start healing in an incorrect position. You should also never receive Reiki after consuming alcohol.

Other than these exceptions, Reiki can be enjoyed by everyone.
